My Video + Audio Picks

If you’re just using your phone to film and stream (which can work very well and give great results!) we recommend this tripod and light combo. It can be used on a tabletop or on the floor and works great if you just need a bit of extra lighting.

To get the best quality audio, you’ll want to use a professional wireless microphone kit. We use this Shure BLX14/SM31 setup and some of our instructors like the headset that comes with it. Most instructors prefer this Pyle PMEMS10 minimalist headset or this Shure CVL lavalier.

The Shure BLX14 has either an XLR (microphone cable) or 1/4″ (guitar cable) balanced output. If you are plugging it into either the Canon Vixia camera (or most cameras) or anything else with a 3.5mm (standard headphone cable) jack you will need this 3.5mm to 1/4″ adapter cable. If you want to use it with your phone you can use the iRig 2 interface (for 3.5mm headphone Jacks and Apple lightning jacks) with a simple 1/4″ cable. The iRig Pre is a better option, as it has an additional preamp gain stage (volume – increase the volume going in) if it is available. You will need a simple XLR cable to use the iRig Pre.
